Tape Town Franchisee Guidelines:
A successful Tape Town is visible along a street or bike path, the biker in need of decoration drives by and boom, maximum distribution of tape.
Tape Town endeavors to provide a space for people to park their bikes and decorate them, preferably out of the sun sometimes during the day.
( Coming soon? A Mobile Tape Town, i.e. a board with wheels or mounted on a wagon so it can readily be moved to shady center camp or other optimal locations as time and situations allow. In 2006 the blackboard that was the back of center camp was decorated with tape town tape dropped off as business was slow in the hinterlands. )
MOOP:
Backings and little slivers of tape being left on the playa could draw negative attention. Tape Town must always have a readily accessible trash.
When the wind picks up, it is likely that tape town must be packed up, that is secured in some way. Put the whole display space in a van, or cover it with canvas when the wind really gets going unnattened i.e. during the night, unless you are that sort of provider.
Duct Tape : stock of Duct Tape is limited to one roll of silver to be used only for structural emergencies for the minimization of duct tape minimizes Sticky Residue.
Past uses of TapeTown wares:
Bike decoration - Safety ( reflective tape for visibility, dulling sharp corners ) - Costume enhancement ( pasties, wrap yourself in hazard tape, tape old boots into new styles ) - Fixing things ( stilts even with enough wraps, minor shelter repairs, attaching things to your bike ) - Information ( labeling in kitchens or common areas, facilitating recycling or food safety )
Popular Tapes of the Past: (PTP)
Shiny and glittery fluorescent tapes are very popular with bike decorators, especially if the colors in stock are complimentary. Bright pinks, greens etc... Either prism tapes with backings, or fluorescent gaffers tape in different widths for modifying or obscuring logos on trucks, or spelling things out on blank surfaces respectively.
Reflective tapes are expensive but can in the right hands increase safety on the playa. Consider dropping some by the department of mutant vehicles as a goodwill gesture.
At least people can figure out what reflective tapes are good for, even if they aren't wise to the DOT blessed versus run of the mill reflective tapes. Glow in the dark tape is a different story, perhaps as we go along educating people, and learning ourselves where a good place to utilize tape that is charged up by light, and is seen discharging in the dark, more of an investment in this tape will be warranted.
