The Alumni Coffeehouse will occupy Vollum Gallery / Lounge throughout the Ren Fayre weekend. Stocking craft supplies, coffee, munchable treats, board games, lots of music, and hopefully, patrons: all are welcome!
Participate in the Weathergram Revival! Once upon a time at Reed, Lloyd Reynolds taught people to write Weathergrams. Come try your hand, holding a round or edged pen, at writing a dozen or so word or less poem (traditionally seasonal) on brown paper. We'll create and hang them on campus over the weekend, but lets get lots of them done on Friday afternoon… Maybe we'll make some Prayer Flags too!
Friday 1PM - 3:30 Right along with weathergram crafting assistance, the Coffeehouse kicks off its fun and entertainment services just in time to help get your costume on for the Fayre. Come make toys or add that extra sparkle to your attire. We'll have makings for sparkly head wreaths, funny bracelets or whatever your imagination can come up with. And materials and instructions for making your own hula hoops. All ages welcome, children encouraged!
Friday 5:30 -7:00 Open for post parade coffee and treats!
Friday 7:00 - 8:00 Trash Mountain Boyz start the whoopus as Arif Kahn, Wes Kempfer, Ben Salzberg and Timo Landia acoustificate the place up!
Friday 8:00 - 9:00 Will Morgan '88 lays down looping laminations of Guthrie-Sabbath influenced guitar and vocals, served in both original and cover flavorz.
Friday 9:00 – Midnight close, Grants Tooth: Justin Miller '90, Marc Visnick '91, Stu Margolis '93, Phil Bender '91, Rob Coleman '92, Tim Ritchey, & Tooth Harper (a.k.a. Marty Danzer), serve up an inviting and rowdy lawn of grass roots folk.
Saturday 8:00AM- 9:15 Morning Yoga with Will: Start your day with a basic community practice friendly to all skill levels. Wear comfortable clothing, and bring a mat if you have one.
Saturday Noon - Coffeehouse opens for treats and music and games and crafts
Saturday 1:00 - 3:00 Manta Reels forth the Soul-Cinematic vibe. Chris Read on guitar, Bill Fleischer at the keys, Phil Austin around the bass, and Aaron J. Grier '99 on drums.
Saturday 3:00 - 5:00 Renee Garfin '04 spins her soothing spells of ambient, down tempo sounds out from the DJ decks.
Saturday 5:00 - 6:30 The coffeehouse pitches and rolls as chanteyman and free reed freebooter Broadside Johnnie (aka John Remington '83) wrestles his concertina around lyrical gems plundered from the Age of Sail through the Age of Aquarius and beyond. Consonant cooperation encouraged or coerced.
Saturday 7:00 - 9:00 Rose in the Heather blooms in the coffeehouse, filling it with their eclectic Irish and bluegrass tunes. Featuring lively fiddle, rhythm and melody guitars, bass, percussion and vocals, the band members are Julie (Dunne ‘87) Samudio, Mike Samudio, Chris Huey, Curt Erickson ‘87, John Parrott, and Lisa Colgrove.
Saturday 10:30 - Sunday 1:00AM close
The Coffeehouse carries on some of that glow from the opera when Scott Schurr
'79 and the classic rock and blues band, Prime
Number, blast onto campus to keep the party running until the wee hours.
Dance to songs that were great before you were born, and more than a few since
then. See what Reedies warp into 25 years later - if you dare.
Sunday 8:00AM - 9:15 Morning Yoga with Will. Gently stretch those tight dancing muscles, or otherwise soothe and strengthen your mind-body with another basic short-meditation and asana session.
Sunday Noon - Coffeehouse Opens for treats and games and music and crafts
Sunday 3:00 - 4:30
Come take big great gulps of java-sea air as Broadside
Johnnie casts away his concertina for an hour or so of pure, unadulterated,
chanteys, foc'sle songs and ballads rendered acapella. OK OK. Maybe not unadulterated.
Or pure. Swig and sway your way back to reality. OK OK. Bygone reality (like
you'll be fit for such subtle discernments).
Sunday 5:00PM Coffeehouse closes
